Texas Shark Rodeo (TSR) is a catch - photo - release team oriented shark fishing tournament with an emphasis on tagging and collecting data for the conservation of sharks. This tournament is brought to you by Sharkathon with help from various sponsors as we secure donations.
The original TSR started by "Big" Lou McEachern was a 9-10 month long honor-system shark fishing tournament created in an effort to promote the conservation of sharks and education of catch-photo-release to the anglers fishing for them. David "Beachbum" Williams helped collect the data through his shark fishing message board. The original TSR came to an untimely end when the work to run it was too overwhelming for those involved. Sharkathon has taken upon themselves the task of restarting this event with the consent of "Big" Lou McEachern in an effort to further promote the conservation of sharks and to gather data from statewide participants to help scientific studies with catch data and tagging.
TSR is in partnership with Texas A&M Harte Research Institute (HRI), and Guy Harvey. TSR will be issuing tags and fin/clip vials for participants to help further shark research. Data will be collected via the TSR website during the competition.
This event is a "Leave no trace" event and we greatly encourage all participants to not only clean up after themselves when fishing but do what they can to leave the area they fished cleaner than when they arrived.
